*MESSAGE:*
In life, it is very easy to take some things for granted when things seem to be going well for us. Unfortunately, many people, even Christians fail to realise how the mercies and love of God have beautified their lives hitherto. Even when faced with the most life-threatening situations, the sweet psalmist of Israel, David, made gratitude to God and thanksgiving the hallmark of his life and career.
Our text presents David's prayer of thanksgiving as an example for us. He had won all battles and God had given him rest. He had built a palace for himself among other blessings. Although he was not happy that his plan to build a house for God was not approved by God, David, however, drew comfort from the promise of God that He had established his kingdom forever and that his son would build the house.
In appreciation of God's goodness for establishing his dynasty, David poured his heart with a profound sense of thanksgiving unto Him. David believed that the battles he won were through God's efforts. He noted that God raised him from a very low estate to a great preferment; He gave him success and victory over his enemies and crowned him as king in place of Saul. God not only gave him power and dominion in Israel but also bestowed on him honour and reputation among other nations. He then prayed for the performance of God's other promises.
As we reflect on the journey so far, this season serves as a fitting moment to raise our Ebenezer to God and show worthy gratitude to Him. We should speak highly and honourably of the Lord's favours to us. We should build our faith and hope upon the sureness of God's promises. He knows our needs and the best to give to us. Ours is to anchor our faith on His promises, with the assurance that He will never fail.

In the early 2010s, Sarah Thompson who lived in Atlanta, Georgia, USA was described as an active member of her church. She attended services regularly, volunteered in various ministries, and was involved in a small group. However, her commitment to her faith was often overshadowed by her pride and judgmental attitude towards others. She was quick to criticise and slow to forgive, demonstrating a lack of love and compassion. While she was outwardly religious, her heart was far from God. Essentially, Sarah was picking and choosing the aspect of the word of God she would obey. She focuses on external religious practices without cultivating a genuine heart for God.
The narrative about the life and exploits of Jehu represents a practice of incomplete obedience to God. Jehu was given the privilege to ascend the throne almost on a platter of gold with an express command of what to do. He pleased God when he exterminated Baal worship and its prophets in the land of Israel. God acknowledged his exploits and honoured him by offering him four generations of regal rights. That was where it ended because "Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: For he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin" (2 Kings 10:31). Jehu failed in that major detail which mattered most. He only followed the Lord halfway.
The enduring character in a truly regenerated child of God is continual and total obedience to the word of God. To claim that we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus but still choose what is convenient in His word to obey or not, makes our profession false.
We need to resist and reject self-will and self-management by following the Lord wholeheartedly and obeying Him fully. That is the only way we can please Him and be rewarded by God. It is also the only way to earn His commendation rather than condemnation at the end of life.

A story is told of a thirteen-year-old girl who listened intently to her pastor’s sermon about God’s love in giving the best gift of His Son to die for everyone. He spoke about the love of Jesus who willingly offered His life on the Cross for our sins. The girl’s heart was deeply touched by what she heard. She had no money, so it seemed as though she had nothing to give to the Lord. Then, she thought of a gift that would please God very much. When the usher passed the offering plate, she whispered to him, “Please lower the offering plate.” He lowered it. She kept requesting the plate to be lowered until it reached the floor. Then, she stepped into the offering plate and stood in it. She was giving the Lord the very best gift she could ever afford. She was giving herself to the Lord! What a story of what it means to truly give our best to the Lord!
Like the Levites in today’s text, believers are to give their best as hallowed gifts to the Lord. As a songwriter, Howard Benjamin Grose captured it in a hymn, “Give of your best to the Master; Give of the strength of your youth; Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardour; Into the battle for truth.”
Believers are to offer their best unto the Lord. Jesus proved His love by giving us the best - His life. We must give Him our all - heart, life, time, talents, and treasures. This can be done through total obedience to His words; we must preach the gospel, share His love, be devoted and consecrated, and teach, model, and mentor the old and young until Christ is formed in them. Be a blessing to everyone. Then, you will experience more of His transforming and satisfying love.

*MESSAGE:*
Choice making is not a carefree or frivolous exercise for serious-minded and purpose-driven individuals. Adequate time, diligent efforts, and careful consideration are put in before arriving at a choice. Such purpose-driven choices are made to align with well-defined goals, values, and aspirations. Once all these factors have been carefully weighed and one choice is decided upon, everything is committed to it.
Paul the apostle, inspired by the Holy Spirit, has been expressing praise and thanksgiving to God as he reflects on the wonder of God's grace and love in redeeming us and choosing us to be His people. As he looks at the inheritance and other benefits that come with this choice, he wants us to understand that our choice by God wasn't an impulsive, rash, or irrational action. It was a well-thought-out and carefully calculated choice. He had planned the choice long beforehand and had a clear-cut purpose. Those He chosen are meant to reflect His praise and glory. This is His predetermined plan; that they will be for His glory.
As we rejoice in our election and privilege of salvation in Christ, we must not be quick to forget the reason we have been selected. Grace does not leave us the way it meets us. It does something transformative in us. It takes us from the state of ignominy and shame that sin brought upon us to a new realm of glory and praise. Our life is now to reflect the glory and praise of God. If after we profess to have become part of the chosen of God but are still messed up with shameful and disgraceful acts, then our profession is surely doubtful.
Right from the point of salvation until the final day when we become forever united with God in heaven, our lives should show the glory of God. People that knew us before our conversion must be able to testify of the glorious change that has taken place in our lives. The new people we meet in our daily activities should also be able to tell the difference in our lives when compared to those of others. This is why God has chosen us. Let us ask Him for grace to live to fulfill this purpose.

One of the best-known Christian hymns is Amazing Grace. It is a poem written in 1772 by John Newton and describes the joy and peace of a soul uplifted from despair to salvation through the gift of grace. The words are also a vivid autobiographical commentary on how Newton was spared both physical and spiritual ruin. It relates to the happy ending of the tale of a defiant man who managed again and again to escape danger, disease, abuse, and death, only to revert to "struggles between sin and conscience." It is the story of a man on whom grace had been lavished but not wasted. This is why on his tombstone is written this epitaph: "John Newton, clerk, once an infidel and libertine, a servant of slaves in Africa, was by the rich mercy of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, preserved, restored, pardoned, and appointed to preach the faith he had long labored to destroy."
The Christian life is a testimony to the power of grace. This is what the Apostle Paul reveals in this introductory part of this epistle. He extols the grace of God that has been so richly and abundantly lavished on the believer. It is this grace that brings redemption and forgiveness of sin and reveals the full purpose of God which is to take us ultimately to heaven.
Sin makes us so wretched and impoverished that we have no good in us that could merit salvation. No one can boast of obtaining redemption and forgiveness of sin as a result of any effort of his. It's all of grace! We are saved by simply believing and accepting this offer of grace by faith.
The Christian life commences by grace, continues by grace, and is consummated through grace. However, grace does not absolve us of our responsibility to live right; rather it imbues us with the strength and ability to do so as we continually rely on the Lord. And in the words of John Newton, this grace that brought us thus so far is what we should rely on to lead us home!

_“But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness, and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.”_ - *(Obadiah 1:17).*

*MESSAGE:*
Dennis Wholey, an American television host, and author, once said, “Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a little like expecting a bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.” This implies that no matter how good or careful you are, you will always have detractors.
For some reason, Israel has never lacked detractors. Our text assures that “upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness, and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions” Part of this prophecy was fulfilled when the Jews returned to their own land. It will be ultimately fulfilled at the coming of Christ. The prophecy is directed primarily against Edom, the descendants of Esau, for their arrogance and violence against Jacob’s descendants, Israel. The Edomites are condemned for their actions during a time of distress for Israel, and Obadiah’s prophecy foretells their destruction and Israel’s subsequent restoration and dominion.
The prophecy also hints at the ultimate victory over the kingdom of darkness, affirming that those aligned with God, through Christ, will prevail over all forms of evil, portrayed here as “the house of Esau.” The fire and flame imagery signifies God’s transformative power in believers’ lives. The victory over Esau, representing the forces of darkness, parallels the New Testament promise that “whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4).
In the light of the certainty of the promises of God, Christians should always see themselves as overcomers in all life’s challenges, physical or spiritual. Even life-threatening problems and spiritual battles should not weaken our faith, knowing they all constitute “...our light affliction, which is but for a moment, (and) worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17). Thus, by relying on God’s strength and holding firmly to His promises, believers can face life’s adversities with confidence, knowing that their ultimate triumph is guaranteed.

*MESSAGE:*
One of the things that sets God apart from man is His unimpeachable impartiality in all things, including when dealing with sin. He judges all who disobey His word alike, whether Jews or Gentiles. But in His mercy, He provides an opening for all willing to escape His judgment, if they turn from their sins and obey His word.
Edom was unsympathetic to Israel, her relative. Edom mocked and worsened Israel's problems. She was hostile and violent against the Israelites and rejoiced at Judah's downfall, looted Jerusalem, and took her substance when she was defeated. Edom stood on the crossway to kill the inhabitants of Judah who sought to escape and delivered the captives of Judah to be destroyed by their enemies. This was an act of cruelty that attracted God's judgment. It is on record that in A.D. 70, after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans, the Edomites, who were then known as Idumeans, were wiped out into oblivion, never to be heard of again.
The lesson here is that God's people should demonstrate the evidence of grace by sympathising with those who suffer around them, including enemies who become victims of misadventure. Believers like Christ must pray for those who despitefully use them, feed their enemies, and quench their thirst. Praying and wishing for the death and destruction of enemies is very strange to the Spirit of Christ, who dwells in us. Jesus never prayed that way.
Believers should be merciful towards their neighbours. Make life better for people while you maintain your Christian conviction. Put a smile on people's faces and let others see Jesus in you. Never forget that God fights for, and avenges His people. To fight for ourselves and retaliate against those who offend us would be taking the law into our hands, and that would not please God. Allow the Lord to fight your battles, so that you can, like the Psalmist, declare that, "The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."
