The sarcophagus at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant could collapse if it is hit again, plant director Serhii Tarakanov told France24.

“If a missile or drone hits it directly, or even lands nearby — for example, an Iskander — God forbid. No one can guarantee that the protective structure will survive. That is the main threat,” Tarakanov said.

According to him, a full restoration of the New Safe Confinement over Unit 4 could take three to four years.

He added that radiation levels at the site remain stable and within normal limits.
