” The Dialect of The Ancient Egyptians ”
The ancient Egyptians had several dialects
in speech. These regional differences in speech and writing appeared best in the Coptic language, which began around the third century AD and was the last development of the ancient Egyptian language. But these dialects undoubtedly existed in the ages of the previous Egyptian language, but we cannot notice them very much in the texts. For example, we have a letter from around 1200 BC in which the writer complains that the correspondent’s language is not understood, like the language of an Egyptian from the north speaking to an Egyptian from the south. As for the Coptic language, it had five main dialects; The southern Coptic language known as “Saidic” was the classical form, while the northern dialect, which was called “Bohairic” is currently the dialect used in the Churches 💁
